As is often the case with this particular variety, Merlot may be the dark horse of Boeger Winery. The Merlot plantings are on our Estate vineyards, deliver an unassumingly delicious wine year in and year out, while a small amount of fruit from higher elevation vineyards contributes additional structure and color. The nose offers rich, savory notes that are counterpointed by red fruit aromas, while the palate is full and inviting, with Merlot’s typically soft, rich tannins.
This Italian-variey based blend of 100% Estate fruit pays homage to the many food-friendly wines of Italy. Refosco and Aglianico provide woodsy, herbal aromas to balance the inherent fruitiness of Charbono. On the palate, the vibrant acidity and tighter tannic profile will complement most richer and savory flavors.
2016 Petite Sirah - An intense aroma of dried blueberries and cherries, with notes of fig, green olive and chopped tarragon. Mouth-coatingly rich and full on the palate. Grapey fruit flavors persist throughout the surprisingly plush finish.
This small lot of Zinfandel was selected out of our various lots of purchased fruit as an exceptional expression of Sierra Foothills Zinfandel. Grown at the Rosa Canina vineyard at 3000 feet elevation, this particular Zinfandel exhibits a wide complement of bright, herbal and savory aromas to complement Zin’s typical fruitiness. Well-structured for a Zinfandel, the firm tannins provide mouth filling richness and age-worthiness.
2016 Sangiovese- Baked tart cherry, fresh strawberry, tea leaf, rose hips. Soft & full with fine, tight tannins, and savory, earthy notes on the finish. This is a fruit forward wine that doesn’t shy away from aromatic and flavor complexity.
