Vineyards
Boeger Winery has 55 acres of producing vineyard at the home estate. The winery also leases or manages another 40 acres within the county. We grow over 90% of the grapes that we use in our estate bottled wines. The terrian of the vineyards is characterized by steep hillsides, rocky soil, every exposure, and numerous micro-climates. These types of varied conditions are what allow us to grow over 30 different varietals all within a relativly small area.

ESTATE VINEYARD

Very steep slopes characterize the 30 acres of vineyards surrounding the winery, which were planted by Greg Boeger from 1973 to the present. The soil is shallow, composed of sedimentary shale, and the slope's exposures face all compass points. The elevation ranges from 2,100 to 2,300 ft. This is on a 70 acre parcel that was the site of the original 1870's vineyard of Giovanni Lombardo.

FOSSATI VINEYARD

Contiguous to the Estate Vineyard, this land was once part of the original ranch homesteaded in the 1850's. Justin Boeger spearheaded the conversion of 10 acres of the old orchard to vineyards in 1998, planting Old Clone Zinfandel, Primitivo, Tempranillo, Graciano, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Malbec.

PEEK VINEYARD

This 20 acre leased vineyard, planted by Greg Boeger in 1982, is situated in the Camino-Fruitridge area at the 3000' elevation (this agricultural region is also known as Apple Hill). The red, deep, fertile soil is of volcanic origin with gentle slopes and views of the snow capped Sierra Nevada Mountains. The white varietals are planted on the cool East slopes and reds on the warmer West slope. The higher elevation makes for crisp acidity and intense fruit character in the grapes. The Peek Vineyard is planted with Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and White Riesling, Tempranillo, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

RITCHIE VINEYARD

At 35 years old, this is one of the oldest plantings in the El Dorado appellation. This 20 acre vineyard is all Barbera, trained in the old head pruned style and grown on a shallow, rocky soil at the 1500' elevation near the town of El Dorado. This site is ideal for Italian style grapes, being similar to the Piedmontese region of Northern Italy. Low yields and intense fruit characterize this vineyard.

WALKER VINEYARD

This vineyard is the source of the popular Walker Zinfandel. Located at 2100 ft. elevation on a decomposed granitic soil, the vines are over thirty years old and trained in the head pruned system. The vineyard is tended by Lloyd Walker who has produced stellar grapes since 1970.
