GREG BOEGER-Winemaker

Greg Boeger spent much of his childhood at his grandfather's winery (Nichelini Winery 1864) in Napa and there started his lifelong interest in winemaking. Greg graduated from UC Davis and shortly thereafter moved to El Dorado county to start the first commercial winery in the area since prohibition; the year was 1972. Since then Greg Boeger has led Boeger Winery from a small local secret to a nationally renown winery. He has built a reputation on innovation and craftsmanship. Always curious about new varieties, Greg has introduced over thirty different varietals to the Boeger Winery repertoire. Including Merlot in 1978 and Barbera in 1982, when they were virtually unheard of in California.

In addition to experimenting with different varieties, Greg Boeger is known for producing consistantly high quality wines. Over his 30 years as Boeger Winery's winemaker, Greg has won hundreds of awards including several Double Golds, Best of Class and Best of Region. Boeger Merlot was the first Merlot to be served in the Whitehouse in 1984 during the Regan administration and Boeger Zinfandel was presented to Queen Elizabeth II as a gift from the state during her visit to California 1982. Today, Greg Boeger focuses most of his attention on the vinyards and grape growing for the winery; teaming up with son, Justin Boeger (winemaker), for an unbeatable combination of quality fruit and quality craftsmanship.

JUSTIN BOEGER-Winemaker

Justin Boeger graduated from UC Davis in 1998 with a degree in fermentation science. After apprenticing under his father for 5 years, Justin is now the sole winemaker for Boeger Winery. Following in the pioneering tradition, Justin has introduced several new wines and techniques to Boeger Winery, including the now very popular Pinot Noir program and a comprehensive and diversified oak aging program. The apple not falling far from the tree, Justin has already won several prestigious awards for the winery, including Best Meritage of the Sierra Foothills and Best Pinot Noir of the Sierra Foothills.
